OUR BELIEFS

Crossroads Church is a Baptist church that holds to a traditional evangelical statement of faith.

the bible

Inspired. Inerrant. Sufficient.

We believe the Holy Bible as the inspired Word of God, without any error, the all sufficient authority in matters of faith, doctrine, and Christian living.

Ps 119:89, 105, 130; Isa 40:8; Col 3:16; 2 Tim 3:16-17; John 5:39; Hebrews 4:12; 1 Peter 1:20-21, 25; Eph 6:17

One God. Three Persons.

God. We believe in one God, eternally existing in three Persons:  The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit.

Gen 1:1; Deut 6:4; Isa 43:3, 15; Jer 10:10; Matt 6:9ff; John 4:24; 5:26; Acts 1:7; Gal 4:6; Eph 4:6; Col 1:15; 1 Tim 1:17; 1 Peter 1:17

god

Jesus Christ

Fully God. Fully man.

We believe in the Virgin Birth of Jesus Christ, and that He is truly God and man.  He died on the cross for our sins.  He rose bodily from the dead, ascended into Heaven where He sits at the right hand of the Father and is now our High Priest and Advocate.

Psalm 2:7; Matt 1:18-23; Luke 1:35; 4:41; John 1:1-18, 29; 10:30; Acts 1:9; Rom 1:3-4; Phil 2:5-11; Col 1:13-22 Heb 1:1-3; Rev 1:13-16

Creator. Convicter. Restrainer.

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity; equal with God the Father and God the Son and is of the same nature. He was active in the creation of the world. He convicts people of their sin and invites unbelievers to accept Christ as Savior. He restrains Satan and his demons until God’s purpose is fulfilled. He convicts of sin, of judgment and of righteousness; and He bears witness to the truth of the Gospel in preaching and testimony. He is the Agent in the New Birth and He seals, empowers, guides, teaches, witnesses, sanctifies and helps the believer.

Gen 1:2; Ps 51:11; Matt 1:18; 3:16; 4:1; Mark 1:10; Lk 1:35; Rom 8:9-11; Gal 4:6; Eph 1:13-14; 4:30; 5:18; 1 Tim 3:16; 4:1-2; Heb 9:8, 14; Rev 1:10

the holy spirit

man

Sinful. Cursed. In need of regeneration.

We believe that man was created in the image of God, but fell into sin and, therefore, was condemned to death under God’s curse.  Only through regeneration by the work of the Holy Spirit can man’s salvation and spiritual life be obtained.

Gen 1:26-30; 2:5, 7, 18-22; 3; 9:6; Ps 1; 8:3-6; Isa 6:5; Jer 17:5; Matt 16:26; Rom 1:19-32; 3:10-18; 5:6, 12, 19; 6:6; 1 Cor 1:21-31; Eph 2:1-22

By faith alone. In Christ alone.

We believe that eternal salvation is the free gift of God, entirely apart from man’s works, and is possessed by any and all who have faith in and receive Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.

Matt 1:21; Rom 1:16-18; 2:4; 3:23-25; 4:3ff.; 5:8-10; 6:1-23; 8:1-18,29-39; 10:9-10,13; 13:11-14; 1 Corinthians 1:18,30; 6:19-20; 15:10; 2 Corinthians 5:17-20; Galatians 2:20; 3:13; 5:22-25; 6:15; Ephesians 1:7; 2:8-22; 4:11-16; Philippians 2:12-13; Colossians 1:9-22; 3:1ff.; 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24; 2 Timothy 1:12; Titus 2:11-14; Hebrews 2:1-3; 5:8-9; 9:24-28

salvation

the church

Regenerated. Autonomous.

We believe in a regenerated Church membership; that is, all members must be mature enough to understand their need for Jesus Christ and must make public profession of their faith and repentance.  We believe in the autonomy of the local Church.  The Church shall manage its own affairs and shall not be subject to any other religious body or organization.

Matt 16:15-19; 18:15-20; Acts 2:41-42,47; 5:11-14; 6:3-6; 13:1-3; 14:23,27; 15:1-30; 16:5; 20:28; Rom 1:7; 1 Corinthians 1:2; 3:16; 5:4-5; 7:17; 9:13-14; 12; Ephesians 1:22-23; 2:19-22; 3:8-11,21; 5:22-32; Philippians 1:1; Colossians 1:18; 1 Timothy 2:9-14; 3:1-15; 4:14; Hebrews 11:39-40; 1 Peter 5:1-4; Revelation 2-3; 21:2-3.

Immersion. Memorial. Necessary. Not salvific.

We believe that baptism is by immersion and the Lord’s Supper is a memorial to His suffering and death on the cross.  These are ordinances to be observed by the Church in its present age.  They are, however, not to be regarded as means of man’s salvation.

Matthew 3:13-17; 26:26-30; 28:19-20; Mark 1:9-11; 14:22-26; Luke 3:21-22; 22:19-20; John 3:23; Acts 2:41-42; 8:35-39; 16:30-33; 20:7; Romans 6:3-5; 1 Corinthians 10:16,21; 11:23-29; Colossians 2:12.

eschatology

Personal. Bodily. Imminent.

We believe in the personal, bodily, imminent, and glorious return of the Lord Jesus Christ and that His Second Coming inspires believers for a dynamic and zealous life of service for Him while waiting for His return.

Real. Eternal.

We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead, the everlasting blessedness of the saved in Heaven, and the everlasting punishment and separation from God of the unsaved in Hell.

mission

Declare the Gospel. Make disciples.

We believe the mission of the church is to make disciples by declaring the gospel of Jesus Christ in the power of the Spirit to the glory of God, and gathering these disciples into churches that they might worship the Lord and obey his commands.

One man. One woman. One lifetime.

Marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman in covenant commitment for a lifetime. It is God's unique gift to reveal the union between Christ and His church and to provide for the man and the woman in marriage the framework for intimate companionship, the channel of sexual expression according to biblical standards, and the means for procreation of the human race.

Historic. Faithful.

As a church we recognize our solidarity with the God’s people of generations past. Our identity is built on the foundations laid by the Apostles with Jesus Christ being the cornerstone (Eph. 2:19-22). We thus ascribe to The Apostle’s Creed, and The Nicene Creed. We also accept the 2000 Baptist Faith and Message.
